Global Ports, Russia’s leading operator of marine container terminals (part of Delo Group), and NewNew Shipping line from PRC signed a memorandum on expanding cooperation at St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on 20th of June. The document was signed by Mr. Albert Likholet, CEO of Global Ports, and Mr. Ke Jin, representative of NewNew Shipping.The parties agreed to join efforts to increase import and export marine container cargo transportation between Russia and China via the deep-water port of Ust-Luga using the infrastructure of the Ust-Luga Container Terminal (ULCT, part of Global Ports). NewNew Shipping plans to deploy a large-tonnage fleet with a capacity of up to 4,000 TEU on the route by the end of 2025. In its turn, Global Ports will provide operational capacities for the smooth and efficient handling of the new fleet.
The agreement will be valid for five years.
Global Ports and NewNew Shipping line started cooperation in St. Petersburg in 2023. The company carries out regular container transportation between Global Ports terminals in the Baltic and Far East basins and Chinese ports, including Shanghai, Ningbo, Qingdao, Nansha (Guangzhou). ULCT accepted the first NewNew Shipping line vessel call in June 2024.
ULCT is one of the most modern marine cargo terminals in Russia and can handle all types of containers and all classes of hazardous cargo. The port of Ust-Luga is served by one of the largest and most modern port stations of the Oktyabrskaya railway, Luzhskaya station. Thus, the port has direct access to the railway network bypassing the busy St. Petersburg railway hub, which allows to optimise the logistics chain and reduce the time of export and import cargo delivery to final recipients.
In the summer of 2024, against the backdrop of container throughput recovery and growing demand for increased vessel capacity on the Russian Baltic, ULCT increased the permissible draft at its berths up to 12.6 m.
