Sergey Shishkarev, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Handball Federation of Russia and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Delo Group, spoke at the session "Sporty Far East" at the Eastern Economic Forum-2023.
During the session, its participants – representatives of various sports, government officials and heads of public organizations – discussed the prospects for the development of sports infrastructure, international cooperation and sports support. As a successful example of working with foreign partners, Sergey Shishkarev cited the invitation to the Russian Super League of the Chinese handball team "Phoenix", which at the end of the season took tenth place out of thirteen.
"We believe that this is already a serious achievement, and we hope that the result of participation in Russian competitions will be a successful performance of the Chinese handball team at the qualification for the Olympic Games," said Sergey Shishkarev.
The Head of the Handball Federation of Russia welcomed the efforts of the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation and the entire Russian sports community, "which stimulates athletes to develop, not to lay down their armor, not to stop training hard".
Touching upon the topic of sports infrastructure development in the country, Sergey Shishkarev noted that it is unevenly distributed. "There are regions with a huge number of sports facilities where you can play handball. Here in the east of the country there are practically none," he said. At the same time Sergey Shishkarev cited the example of Kemerovo, where in August 2023 the Super Cup of Russia in handball among women's teams was held in the multi-sports hall.
According to Sergey Shishkarev, handball in the Far East continues to develop. Thus, in the near future, the Handball Federation of Russia will consider the inclusion of a professional team from the Sakhalin Region in the National Championship. The Group actively invests in the development of sports in the regions where it operates. "Sport means employees of the enterprises who lead a healthy lifestyle, who give birth to children. Last year we opened a multi-sports ground in Zabaikalsk. We do this everywhere and will continue to do so," he added.
At the end of his speech, Sergey Shishkarev spoke about the project of the production center "Made in Delo", which is making a film about the legend of Russian and Soviet sports Fyodor Cherenkov. "Next year he would have been 65 years old. We are creating a full-length picture with a strong cast: Nikolai Fomenko, Sergei Medetsko, Boris Scherbakov. Young actor Stas Rumyantsev plays Fedor Cherenkov. On the examples of such people, on the examples of selfless service to sport, modesty, respect for the Motherland, it is necessary to educate the younger generation", – summarized Sergey Shishkarev.
