Sergey Shishkarev elected President of the Handball Federation of Russia

A well-known politician and businessman Sergey Shishkarev elected President of the handball Federation of Russia /HFR/ during a special conference of the organization held in Moscow.

The elections Sergey Shishkarev passed unopposed. He was the only candidate for the elections within the prescribed period up to 24 March.

The new head of the HFR said that in Russia it is necessary to revive the former glory of the national handball. For this purpose the handball development strategy for the next 5 years will soon be developed.

“Russian handball lived for a decade without clear goals and objectives. It’s time to fix this. Soon we will develop a strategy for the development of handball until 2020. I think, in the autumn of this strategy will be adopted,” said Shishkarev.

“Thank you for your confidence in me,” he stressed. – I have tried as far as possible to familiarize with the problems of national handball. We all have the one goal – – to revive former glory of the national handball, to make this sport mass available and loved”.

According to the assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Igor Levitin, the new President of the HFR is ready to lead national teams to leading positions. He expressed this opinion at the special conference of the HFR.

“Sergey Shishkarev – is a man who is willing to work hard as President HFR, to unite the Federation and to drive our teams to leading positions”, – said Levitin.

In late February, Vladimir Nelyubin, who headed the handball Federation of Russia, resigned. He led the organization since March 2013. His resignation was related to unsatisfactory results of the national teams.

The Russian men’s team, which is the Olympic champion of 2000, missed the Games-2012 and failed to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games. Russian women’s team for the first time in the history was unable to qualify for the 2013 world Championships and was ranked in 14th place in the European championship in 2014. Meanwhile they still have chances to qualify for the Games in 2016.

Sergey Shishkarev, Deputy Chairman of the Government Marine Board, doctor of legal Sciences, Deputy of the state Duma III-V convocations. His candidature for the office of President of the Federation has nominated Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Trustee Committee HFR, Dmitry Rogozin.
