Delosport and Russian Rugby Federation Open New Rugby Stadium in Moscow
Delosport, together with the Russian Rugby Federation, has officially opened a new rugby stadium in Filyovsky Park, Moscow. The facility marks the first stage in the creation of a major multifunctional sports cluster in the area.
The opening ceremony featured a children’s rugby tournament, master classes, and friendly competitions in rugby and football for local schoolchildren.
The new stadium spans 1.4 hectares, combining land owned by Delosport and an adjacent plot allocated to the Russian Rugby Federation by the Moscow City Government. The project was fully implemented by Delosport. The stadium is equipped with a 120 x 80 meter artificial turf field with a durable, wear-resistant surface, permanent rugby goals, and a 704-seat covered grandstand. It meets the requirements for hosting Premier League matches and Moscow Rugby Championship competitions. Conveniently located just 300 meters from the Moscow River embankment and within walking distance of Pionerskaya and Filyovsky Park metro stations, the facility also offers free parking and bus service.
Looking ahead, the rugby stadium will form part of a larger multifunctional sports cluster in Filyovsky Park. Plans include the construction of a 5,000-seat universal arena for handball and other team sports. This next phase of the project is now under development and approval by Delosport.
“We expect the new stadium to become not only an integral part of the existing Delosport sports complex in Fili, but also the foundation for a modern team sports cluster. At its core, we envision a handball arena. Expanding sports infrastructure will help promote healthy lifestyles and nurture the next generation of talented athletes,” said Sergey Shishkarev, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Russian Handball Federation and owner of Delosport.
“The opening of the new Fili Stadium is a landmark event for the development of rugby in Russia. We are gaining a modern arena that will serve as home to our teams, attract fans, and set an example of how sports infrastructure should be developed. On behalf of the Russian Rugby Federation, I would like to thank Delosport for their professionalism, persistence, and dedication in making this project a reality. I am confident that the Fili Stadium will inspire young athletes and serve Russian rugby for many years to come,” said Igor Artemyev, President of the Russian Rugby Federation.
The project continues the cooperation agreement signed in 2022 between the Russian Handball Federation and the Russian Rugby Federation, which provides for joint infrastructure initiatives.
Sergey Shishkarev, founder and co-owner of the Delo Group transport and logistics holding, has long been committed to supporting Russian sport. Since 2015 he has headed the Russian Handball Federation, while also serving on the Executive Committee of the Russian Olympic Committee and the Presidential Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sport.
